One of my favorite and most recent regulars that comes in to Chick-fil-A is an elderly man named Mr. Pete. About a month ago, I was introduced to Mr. Pete when he explained to me that he was picking up some food to take to his wife in the hospital. I sympathized with him and wished him well as he headed off to see his beloved.
The next day Mr. Pete came in to Chick-fil-A again to buy the same lunch for his wife. 6 nuggets. He continued to show up day after day for a couple weeks to get her the exact same thing. Then one day he came in and spoke with me and Jarred, explaining that he was going to be out of town for a few days but wanted to make sure his wife still got Chick-fil-A nuggets for lunch. Mr. Pete paid for eleven days worth of 8 nuggets. He arranged for his daughters to pick up the nuggets everyday he was gone and take them to his wife. Mr. Pete wanted to make sure that his two daughters did not pay for the nuggets.
Once Mr. Pete came back to Chick-fil-A from being out of town and suprised me by changing his order to a 12 nugget. I was so happy to hear that his wife was eating more and becoming healthier. Fast forward a few more days to today, Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Pete entered the restaurant with a woman who I knew must be his wife. I smiled, waved, and met them halfway. It absolutely made my day to meet Mrs. Judy and know that after weeks of being in the hospital, she was back home. I absolutely enjoyed seeing Mr. Pete's enthusiasm. He was bouncing around and so proud to introduce his wife to us. I made sure to remind her that she had a really great husband. Her response was the only smile I saw from her the whole time as she told me that "he is really nice."
When they were ready to head out, Mr. Pete scurried out the door to pick up his bride and made sure that he opened the door for her. The elderly couple has been married 48 years. . . .
I look forward to seeing Mr. Pete come in Chick-fil-A again with his Judy by his side.
